Dropping balls with ADHD

Sylvia had been diagnosed with ADHD several years ago and had taken meds off and on, but she never learned much about the many ways ADHD was impacting her. She was working in the tech industry with a busy family life, and many balls were dropping.

Her career path was in a state of flux, and she wasn’t sure how to proceed. She was overwhelmed with all the options. We identified her core values—the things that are most important to her on a personal and spiritual level. Then we looked at her career situation through that lens, and she was able to eliminate options that didn’t fit. She narrowed her choices to a few good options and we crafted a plan with specific, manageable tasks for her to become a stronger candidate for her preferred positions. When the right opportunity came along, she was able to step into the role and perform well.

We also coached around the things that were happening at home. Working with Sylvia’s preferred modalities, we developed a way for her to track home projects and be more reliable with day-to-day tasks. She also implemented several self-care practices that made a significant difference in her overall health and energy.

Because of all the dropped balls, Sylvia had not allowed herself to pursue hobbies. We discovered that when she made time for her creative side, she found it easier to follow through with the more boring tasks around the house.

Throughout our coaching, we frequently discussed the impact of ADHD and how it presents in Sylvia’s life. She has a good sense of humor which definitely helps her perspective.

When Sylvia brought her career and homelife into closer alignment with her values, strengths and passions, she found her ADHD symptoms weren’t such an issue. She now enjoys a richer family life, a more satisfying career and enhanced creativity.
